"1 YEAR OF YOU" EXPLOSION BOX

Hello everyone!

Today I want to show you the rectangular explosion box that I made to collect the photographs of the first 12 months of my granddaughter Emma's life. In addition to putting the photos on the various sides, I decided to create two thick pockets in the center of the box in which I inserted the cards specially numbered from 1 to 12.

Let's see how I made it! Here you will find the scheme with the cuts and folds: I advise you to print it so it will be easier to follow the explanations.

Lid

Cut a 16.8 x 15.1 cm rectangle from double-sided Wild Flower paper n° 02 and fold to 3 cm on all 4 sides. 4 squares will form in the corners: cut only one side of each (see scheme) and glue it inside to form the lid.

To decorate it I created a shaker using the Dashing Rectangle which measures 9.5 x 6.3 cm, Pastel Yellow paper and a mix of Sparkly Sequins in Yellow, Rose and Peacock colors. Above I glued the words "You" (Big You die) and a paper rosette.

1st Sheet (Base)

From double-sided Wild Flowers n° 02 cut a rectangle measuring 30.4 x 28.5 cm and fold to 10 cm on all 4 sides. 4 squares will form in the corners, trace their diagonal and fold inwards. With a pencil draw the shape of a heart in the 4 corners and cut. The base of the box is ready. On each of the 4 sides I added pockets to insert tags (two measure 10x2.5 cm and the other two measure 8.2x2.5 cm).

2nd Sheet

From the double-sided Pastel Yellow paper cut a rectangle measuring 11 x 26 cm and fold to 9 cm on all 4 sides. The usual 4 squares will form in the corners: of each of them cut only one side, fold it and glue it towards the side to create a pocket. For the 2 short facades it will be necessary to shorten their pockets a little: I created a fold of 8 cm (see scheme) which I will use to glue the pocket to the facade.

3rd Sheet

The procedure is the same as the 2nd sheet, only the measurements of the starting rectangle change, which here are 25.4 x 23.5 cm cut in the double-sided Wild Flowers n ° 06 paper. Another difference is that the pockets are glued on the back of the facades and not on the front, because the 2 thick pockets that contain the 12 cards will go here.

Now glue the sheets on top of each other (only their central part): we start from the 1st sheet on which we glue the 2nd and finally the 3rd.

Thickened pockets and cards

From the Wild Flowers n ° 06 paper cut an 18.2x7.5 cm rectangle. Fold, cut and glue as shown in the diagram. Once assembled, glue them to the base of the large facades of the last sheet.

For the cards, using the Dashing Rectangles die, cut 12 rectangles (measures 8.8 x 12 cm), fold them in half and decorate them. The numbers are made with the Funny Alphabet die, the various Double Face papers and the 1mm Vegetable Cardboard to give more solidity.

For the decoration of the explosion box and the cards I used Die Cuts “Let Your Soul Bloom” and “Shade of Love”; then I added some labels and banners created with the “Tab Set” and “Banner” die. Finally, to give a touch of sparkle, I glued the Sparkle Sequins here and there. The mini album is finished!
